The use of Silver Diamine Fluoride in dentistry has been well documented for its safe and successful ability to help arrest tooth decay. Its application is a conservative approach for the treatment of active decay. Our doctors can discuss if this is a good option for your child’s care. SDF can be used to help stop the progression of cavities, but also sometimes, to delay treatment for a child who is not a candidate for immediate restoration of decay.
The initial application of SDF will be applied to appropriate teeth in very small amounts using a micro brush or by flossing it between the affected teeth. The treatment time is quite fast, about 2 minutes per tooth.
We offer and recommend a second application, free of charge.
